In the News

I don't think I ever cover the news here but here we go. On friday there was an Police Officer killed around here. (you can read about it here) Before I go into the details I'll say the officer was white and the kid who they suspected of killing him was black. I know it shouldn't matter but it does. They said the officer was struck and dragged by a pickup truck after a traffic stop. They found the kid who did it and locked him up over the weekend. On monday they found the kid dead in his holding cell (I say kid but he was 19). He was alone in his "maximum security" cell and he was checked in this cell every 30min. It was like solitary confinement it wasn't like a holding pen with a bunch of other people. So someone went to give this kid some food and found that he had been strangled. 15 min after they just saw he was alive. I mean WTH? how do you strangle someone and nobody notices? Obviously a police office or someone else working for at the jail did it, plus they had help. Hey someone had to be lookout while this kid was being murdered. Now while people's first reaction might be that it was race related I'm thinking this was more about him killing an officer than about him killing a white officer. My money is on a friend of the cop seeking revenge. Cops roll tight, they have to. They risk their lives everyday and the only people in the street they can really trust are the other cops. It's sad not only too see 2 people's lives ended in such ways but to know that this will hurt both the reputations of young black men and county police officers. If you commit a crime shouldn't you be safe in your cell? I mean an officer beating my ass in the street is one thing but for someone to walk into a holding cell and choke this kid is crazy to me. Not only that but I saw on the news this morning that the officers on duty at the cell are not talking to the FBI about it. I guess they are trying to cover they own ass. It's a sad situation all around.

Sidebar: Ok so here's how I got the name Super Dave Van Buren. My friend calls me Super Dave, she's called me this since we met. She likes it, I like it so everyone is happy. With Bustamante we referred to ourselves as the Vanglorious Bustamante's or Van B's for short. So my name was Dave Van B for a minute. She thought that Van B was short for my last name which She guessed was Van Buren. Why I would have that last name I have no idea but it was funny when she told me. So there you have it. that's how SDVB was born lol

Yes, I read about that... craziness. In BK this patient in the psych ward fell out and died on the floor, IN FRONT OF PEOPLE, even the security guard saw her, and did nothing about it for a while.

shameful... this disregard and apathy for human life... I'm gonna tie my tubes and start home schooling my babies...

I understand where the cops were coming from, but what I don't understand is how they thought ending this child's life would solve anything. If anything it caused more problems for the police department and it damn sure didn't take the pain away from the officer's family. Dum asses!

Well, I think I guessed your last name right. I could have sworn I'd read it in a post before.

This article gives you the reason why I DON'T want to practice criminal law. This article also gives you the reason why I DO want to practice criminal law. So much for blind justice and letting the system do its job. Ugh. That is not going to end pretty. Hell, it's already up sh!ts creek.

As for Van Buren...it's some Dutch black folks out there. I like the new name. Super Dave Van Buren fits you better than Homer.

You gonna start giving that name out as your alter ego to folks you don't wanna be bothered with, lol.

you know that is a got damn shame that they did that to that boy. now i understand that you are upset that your fellow officer is gone but jeezzzz to go and take a life is beyond on me

some of these people in this world are just plain ole evil. makes me cringe when i think of the police officers they are hiring these days.

someone needs to speak up, cause that was just plain ole wrong like for real

if that boy had been white they would have killed him. they never kill they own.

what is this world coming to.

Okay, I know someone out there is looking for One Man's Opinion, so here it comes.

First you are right to call him a kid, a child, a newbie....because that is what he is. I'm not sure how they do thing there, but this year alone we have had two officers die in the line of fire. All of murders lived to see their day in court. If they had died out on the street it would have been all good, but we try to be professional, even when we lose one of our own.

We actually had an officer shot two days ago, in the chest. The shooter got away. Thank goodness, the officer was wearing his vest. We are still looking for the bastard who shot him though.

Anyway, back to the post. I am not sure how they do thing where you live, but police officers do not have access to the prisoners here in our prison system. Sherrif officers handle the intake of prisoners down here.

I agree, it does look like it was an inside job, but you never know. I hope that the perp gets caught. I don't believe in the eye for an eye mentality.

I'm always amazed at stories like this and yes, I'd like to know how the police expect to explain what happened. Obviously they don't care though...and that's the problem.

SDVB sounds like a sexually transmitted disease...I'll stick to just Dave.
